Located in the Cultural Centre of Morgado, in the heart of the village of Arruda dos Vinhos, the Lines of Torres Vedras Interpretation Centre excels in its multifunctional structure, exhibiting the heritage of the municipality associated with the Lines of Torres Vedras and affirming its importance in the context of the French Invasions.
Characterized by an attractive and contemporary graphic design, as well as by interactivity, the Centre addresses the theme through a museographic discourse accessible to different audiences, stimulating and inviting the visitor to both know and appreciate the military structures of the municipality of Arruda dos Vinhos, namely the Cego Fort (Military Work No. 9 - National Monument) and the Carvalha Fort (Military Work No. 10 - also a National Monument), as well as their surrounding landscapes.
In 2011, the Torres de Arruda dos Vinhos Lines Interpretation Centre was awarded an Honourable Mention for Best Management and Multimedia Application by APOM - Associação Portuguesa de Museologia.
The Arruda dos Vinhos Circuit of the Lines of Torres is composed of the Interpretation Centre of the Lines of Torres Vedras, the Cego Fort and the Carvalha Fort, integrating also the 'Grandes Desfiladeiros' ('Great Canyons') route of the Historic Route of the Lines of Torres Vedras. As a means of promoting and developing tourism, the Circuit brings together the historical, cultural, and environmental potential inherent to the Lines of Torres Vedras, with the gastronomy, wines and landscape component that characterize the Arruda dos Vinhos municipality.
Both the Carvalha Fort and the Cego Fort are a part of the free audio-guided tour of the 'Circuito das Linhas de Torres' in Arruda dos Vinhos, with audio guides available in Portuguese, English and French, complemented by a map with the location of all the points of interest of this circuit.
Audio guides are available for hire at the Tourism Office in the Centro Cultural do Morgado. Schedule your visit and discover the places and points of interest, accompanied by a brief description of their history and heritage.
Please note: When renting the equipment (3 € per audio guide), the user must deposit the amount of € 20, which will be refunded upon returning the audio guide and its good condition confirmed.
