The ‘GeoWigo – digital experiences project’ aims to promote unique experiences through the creation of ‘zones’, or virtual challenges, exploring the potential of new technologies to present and make the region known to its visitors in a unique, innovative and, above all, fun way.
The importance of environmental education for the sustainability of the planet, a pressing task, requires us to promote a change in attitudes and behaviour towards the environment, especially with regard to the little ones. Bringing children and young people to the outdoor environment also makes them move spontaneously, fighting a sedentary lifestyle responsible for so many serious health problems in adult life, without taking away from them the pleasure of using the technologies they grew up with and that are natural to them.
GeoWigo has managed to implement several educational paths and digital experiences in schools, but its activities are not exclusively aimed at children and young people. The company has been working with several municipalities to integrate and implement routes suitable for all types of ages and conditions, favouring experiences of accessible tourism for all. Depending on their degree of difficulty, GeoWigo digital experiences can be done as a family, with a group of friends, or even individually.
GeoWigo experiences, as diverse as their users, take place in places of historical, military, scenic interest, etc. They can happen in a well-known point of a city, or in a ‘hidden’ waterfall. To enjoy these GeoWigo – Digital Experiences you only need a smartphone with a GPS system and the respective application for your equipment, available at www.geowigo.pt.
Don't forget to use the hashtag #GeoWigo in the photos you post on social media so that we can follow your adventures!
At the Zambujal Fort, Mafra, we are told that we will have to go to the entrance to receive instructions. From that moment on, we became one of the 250 men that this fort housed.
We will have to overcome some challenges and get to know the Forte do Zambujal like our own hand.
Can we transpose the tasks that are imposed on us at the first attempt? If we don't live up to expectations, we'll lose the ‘game’ and have to start over.
After overcoming this ‘mission’, we headed to Malveira where, at the Forte da Feira, we became one of the peasants who helped in the construction of this fort.
At the entrance of the fort will be the English officer who will give us all the instructions so that we can complete the construction of another one of the 152 forts that make up the Lines of Torres Vedras.
During this adventure we will have to give water to those who work in the construction of the ditch and help with the construction of the magazine. A digital challenge that makes us know and see the forts with different eyes, realizing by whom and in what way they were built.
These two GeoWigo, already implemented in these two forts of the Lines of Torres Vedras, await your visit.
Soon you will be able to visit two other forts on this Historic Route of the Lines of Torres Vedras: Forte do Cego, and Forte da Carvalha. These projects are being developed with the Municipality of Arruda dos Vinhos. The Municipality of Monchique also embraced the GeoWigo project, so that you can discover the corners of this charming village.
Create your “explorer suitcase” and include some of the following items: first aid kit, flashlight and spare batteries, power bank, camera.
In case you go for a GeoWigo with a longer route, we recommend that you also include: walking sticks, leggings, fruit, snacks and water to stay hydrated.
Remember to bring comfortable footwear and clothing.
