Installed on the site where a rice husking factory once stood, Fábrica das Palavras unites the town of Vila Franca de Xira, the lezíria and the river in a symbiosis that at first amazes and then seduces the visitor. Large angled windows open onto breathtaking landscapes, letting in the tranquillity and light so necessary for studying and enjoying books, as the Municipal Library, which also includes a children’s library and offers services for reading periodicals and lending books and audiovisual material, operates in this space.
But Fábrica das Palavras isn’t just about books: a multi-purpose room, a gallery and other versatile spaces make it possible to host an intense cultural programme aimed at a wide variety of audiences.
