A Portuguese Military Tourism Association (ATMPT) member, the Historical Route of the Lines of Torres Vedras (RHLT) joined the Military Tourism Road Map, a project that aims at the development of military tourism in Portugal through the promotion, dissemination and preservation of its historical and military heritage, and the holding and/or dissemination of events in the context of military tourism, as well as the development of a National Network of Military History Routes, integrating and structuring the tourist offer of military heritage available to the visitor.
The RHLT is present on the Peninsular War Route, based on a historical period spanning between 1807 and 1813, and which includes the three French invasions of Portugal. Thus, RHLT corroborates ATMPT in believing that there is an advantage in communicating sites of interest in an integrated manner, capable of generating historical, cultural, or natural attractiveness.
The cooperation between the RHLT and the ATMPT started with the dissemination of diverse tourist and cultural information about the territory of the Lines of Torres Vedras on the Portuguese Military Tourism Association website, to which was added the report ‘Historical Route of the Lines of Torres Vedras – an integrated experience’, published in the first issue of the “Viagem na História - Turismo Militar” magazine - a bilingual digital magazine with national and international distribution, whose theme is the promotion of national military heritage and history, providing continuity and highlight to the Military Tourism Guide –, and a video that shows how a visit to the territory of the Lines of Torres Vedras can be a surprising and unforgettable experience, associating gastronomy, oenology, historical recreation, horse riding, and hiking through “well-guarded” places, among many other possibilities, to the heritage of the Lines and of the Third French Invasion. All this can be seen at www.turismomilitar.pt.
