The wine-growing operation is in the hands of Companhia Agrícola do Sanguinhal, founded in 1926 by Abel Pereira da Fonseca. Since then, the project has grown around three estates — Sanguinhal, Cerejeiras and São Francisco — while remaining firmly anchored in a family matrix. Today, it is the new generation of the Pereira da Fonseca family that ensures this heritage, combining technical modernisation with respect for the practices and rhythms of the place.

Along the way, you will pass through vineyards and centuries-old gardens, enter the old distillery, observe the historic wine press with its rod presses, and descend into the ageing cellar, where the wine rests in French and American oak barrels. Everything happens without haste, as if the space were asking the visitor to slow down — and listen.

A guided wine tasting reveals the diversity of production: whites, reds, rosé and fortified wines that reflect the character of the region and the continuity of know-how passed down over decades. These are accompanied by simple and authentic flavours — regional cheeses, toasts, custard tarts — which reinforce the convivial dimension of the experience. The house cats, quiet and curious presences, discreetly accompany visitors, as if aware of their role in the reception.
