When tradition is what it used to be

Tradition and innovation meet in the heart of Arruda dos Vinhos

Casa do Remoinhal is a remarkable example of resilience and adaptation in the Portuguese agricultural sector. In 2013, faced with the decline of small-scale viticulture, the estate decided to replace its vineyards with prickly pear orchards, marking a new era in its history.

The first commercial harvest appeared in 2016 under the ‘Fruta Julieta’ brand, which quickly conquered European markets.

Despite the success with prickly pears, the desire to resume wine production remained. In 2019, Casa do Remoinhal started making wine again, combining traditional methods with modern techniques. The original stone mill and press are still in use, complemented by stainless steel vats and oak barrels, from which the first wines of this new phase were produced in 2021.

The project is currently run by Patrícia and her husband, Nico Aguiar, the great-grandson of the founder of Casa do Remoinhal. Together they are honouring the family legacy and keeping alive the region’s winemaking and agricultural traditions.

Casa do Remoinhal is a perfect example of the harmonious coexistence of tradition and innovation, offering quality products that reflect the richness of the Arruda dos Vinhos terroir.
